Xai, a gaming-focused “layer-3” scaling network built on Arbitrum, which is itself a layer-2 solution for Ethereum, had exciting plans to kick off its XAI token airdrop today, bringing a holiday surprise to eligible community members. However, there’s a slight change in plans, and the token distribution will take a little longer.
Earlier this week, the project’s official Twitter account announced that the airdrop would be postponed to an unspecified time next week due to health issues affecting one of the team members.
“Why the delay? Unfortunately, a crucial member of our team is facing significant health challenges,” the team explained. “We appreciate your understanding and patience during this time.”
Xai also mentioned that they have not yet taken an on-chain snapshot of Sentry node operators who support the network. This means there’s still an opportunity for people to acquire Sentry Keys and become eligible for the first wave of the airdrop.
Additionally, those who own Xai’s Odyssey Legendaries and Vanguards NFTs are already eligible for the initial airdrop, as the snapshots for these have already been taken. If you’re considering buying in now, it appears you won’t be eligible for next week’s airdrop.
Airdrops have become a popular method for crypto projects to reward early users and contributors by offering them tokens. This practice also plays a role in decentralizing governance in such initiatives.
Recently, there has been a surge in airdrops as the crypto market improves, with tokens like Jito and Pyth Network on Solana conducting airdrops. Other upcoming gaming token airdrops include those from the multi-chain token Portal and the gaming-focused network Saga Protocol.
