A California lawyer is suing Chase Bank after they allegedly froze his accounts, wiping out $185,000 and causing a cascade of problems.
A Lawyer’s Nightmare
Brian Adesman, 32, claims Chase shut down his personal and business accounts without warning or explanation. He says this led to a complete financial meltdown, forcing him to cancel his wedding and move into a trailer because he couldn’t pay his mortgage. Debt collectors bombarded him after his credit score plummeted. Adesman, a founding partner at a law firm, had been a Chase customer for over a decade. He describes the bank’s actions as “financial destruction,” not just a simple policy enforcement.
The Bank’s Response and a Mysterious Lawsuit
Chase claims they acted due to “concerning transactions,” citing a separate lawsuit in New Jersey where a company alleges fraudulent payments, including a $3.7 million deposit into Adesman’s firm’s account. However, Chase hasn’t confirmed if this lawsuit directly caused them to freeze Adesman’s accounts.
Adesman denies any wrongdoing, suggesting the bank targeted him after he received legitimate settlement payments from a Mexican client. He also claims he knew nothing about the New Jersey case. He feels the bank is using this as a flimsy excuse for their actions.
Broken Promises and Ongoing Legal Battle
Initially, Chase reportedly promised to return $175,649 to Adesman via cashier’s check. However, he says he never received the money. He’s filed complaints with various government agencies, but over a year later, he’s still fighting for his money. The legal battle continues.
