XRP Advocate Considers Senate Run Against Crypto Critic Warren

XRP supporter and lawyer John Deaton is reportedly exploring a Senate run against Democratic incumbent Elizabeth Warren in the 2024 US Senate elections.

Deaton’s Connections to Massachusetts

Deaton, who represented XRP holders in the SEC’s case against Ripple, highlighted his deep ties to Massachusetts in a social media post:

  • Lived in Swansea, Massachusetts
  • Practiced law in Massachusetts for 23 years
  • Represented Massachusetts asbestos victims
  • Acted as amicus counsel for XRP holders and Massachusetts Coinbase customers in SEC cases

Warren’s Crypto Stance

Warren, who is seeking a third term, is a vocal crypto critic. She introduced the Digital Asset Anti-Money Laundering Act, which aims to extend KYC rules to the digital asset industry.

Deaton’s Potential Challenge

If Deaton decides to run, he will be Warren’s first major challenger. He is currently consulting with campaign manager Jim Conroy, who advised former Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker. Deaton is expected to make a decision in the coming days.
