A Bulgarian man, Tzoni Raykov, lost $1,500 worth of cryptocurrency due to what he claims were unclear instructions from Revolut, the financial technology company. Revolut, however, refuses to reimburse him.
The Lost Crypto
Raykov was trying to transfer USDC, a stablecoin, from an external crypto wallet to his Revolut account. He first successfully transferred a test amount of $10 using the Polygon POS network. However, when he sent the larger $1,500 transfer, he accidentally used the “Polygon (bridged)” network. This converted his USDC into USDC.e, a version Revolut doesn’t support.
Revolut’s Response
The $1,500 in USDC.e arrived in Revolut’s system, but the company won’t return it to Raykov or credit his account. Revolut told Raykov that recovering unsupported assets is beyond their capabilities, citing the technical challenges of supporting every possible cryptocurrency and network combination.
Customer’s Frustration
Raykov, an oil engineer, believes Revolut’s deposit instructions were too vague, leading to his loss. He’s frustrated with Revolut’s lack of assistance and suspects they’re hoping he’ll simply give up. He’s vowed to continue fighting for his money.
