Pomona Launches Guaranteed Income Program for Young Parents

Pomona, California is set to launch a $2.25 million guaranteed income program for young parents facing financial challenges.

Flourishing Families Program

The 18-month program, called Flourishing Families, will provide $500 per month for a year and a half to 250 families. Another 350 families will form a control group and receive stipends for completing tasks aimed at improving their well-being.

Program Details

Families with children under five and parents between 18 and 25 are eligible to apply. The program will be funded by federal coronavirus aid awarded to the city.

Data Analysis and Evaluation

UCLA will partner with the program to analyze its effectiveness. Participants will be interviewed after 12 months and again after the program ends.

Mayor’s Statement

“The most valuable investment we can make in our communities is in our children,” said Pomona Mayor Tim Sandoval. “When we invest in our children, we will have better outcomes.”

Program Launch and Outreach

Marketing and outreach efforts for enrollment will begin in May, and the program is expected to start distributing funds in July.
