Crypto Kingpin Caught: French-Moroccan Man Arrested in Morocco

A major breakthrough in a series of crypto-related kidnappings in France has occurred with the arrest of a key suspect.

The Arrest

24-year-old Badiss Mohamed Amide Bajjou, a French-Moroccan national, was apprehended in Morocco on June 4th. Police found him carrying several knives and multiple phones. His arrest followed an Interpol Red Notice issued in 2023, and a request for extradition from French authorities. The arrest was a collaborative effort between French and Moroccan law enforcement, with France’s Justice Minister publicly thanking Morocco for their swift action and highlighting the excellent cooperation between the two countries. French officials believe Bajjou was part of a larger criminal organization.

High-Profile Kidnapping Attempts

The most recent incident involved an attempted kidnapping of the daughter and grandson of Pierre Noizat, CEO of French crypto platform Paymium, on May 13th. Amazingly, Noizat’s daughter and bystanders fought back, forcing the attackers to flee empty-handed. This brazen daylight attack shocked the community.

Prior to this, there were other incidents:

  • May 3rd:
The father of a crypto entrepreneur was freed after several days of captivity, following a ransom demand of €7 million.
  • January 21st: Ledger co-founder David Balland was abducted but later rescued by police.

International Cooperation and Future Steps

Interpol’s involvement was crucial in tracking Bajjou across borders. The arrest demonstrates strengthening international cooperation in fighting crypto-related crime. Further arrests are expected as investigations continue.

Increased Security Measures

In response to these events, French authorities are stepping up security for crypto executives and their families, providing extra protection including home security checks, safety briefings, and priority phone lines. They’re also advising individuals with significant crypto holdings to be discreet about their wealth and take other precautions.
