Bank Employee Banned After $44,000 Embezzlement

A former Bank of Hawaii employee, 23-year-old Alohi Kaupu-Grace, is facing serious consequences after embezzling $44,000 from customer accounts.

The Embezzlement

Kaupu-Grace was fired in March after the Federal Reserve discovered she had stolen money and forged customer signatures on withdrawal and check purchase slips. She made a partial payment of $5,200 in restitution to the bank.

Industry Ban

As a result of her actions, the Federal Reserve Board of Governors issued an indefinite ban, preventing Kaupu-Grace from working at any federally insured bank. This ban can only be lifted by the Board itself and doesn’t preclude other legal actions.

Further Charges

Kaupu-Grace’s troubles didn’t end there. In May, she was arrested in Hawaii for allegedly using someone else’s credit card. Police believe she obtained the victim’s information while employed at Bank of Hawaii. She’s now facing charges including second-degree theft, identity theft, and fraudulent credit card use.
