Massive Security Failure
Tens of thousands of Bank of America customers are facing the risk of identity theft after a major data breach. The breach occurred due to a failure at Infosys McCamish Systems (IMS), a vendor used by the bank.
Sensitive Data Exposed
The breach affected a deferred compensation plan, exposing a range of personal information, including:
- Full names
- Addresses
- Business email addresses
- Dates of birth
- Social Security numbers
- Other account information
Response from IMS and Bank of America
IMS has offered affected customers a two-year identity theft protection program from Experian. Bank of America has also recommended that customers reset their passwords and monitor their accounts for suspicious activity.
Identity Theft Protection
Customers can enroll in the complimentary identity theft protection service by following the instructions provided in the notification letter. The service includes:
- Daily credit report monitoring
- Internet surveillance
- Identity theft resolution
Caution Advised
While there have been no reports of misuse of the compromised data, customers are advised to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity to Bank of America.
