Winklevoss Twins Double Down on Crypto Donations

The Winklevoss twins, famous for their involvement with Facebook and their own crypto exchange Gemini, are continuing to donate big bucks to Republican candidates.

Targeting Elizabeth Warren

This time, they’re giving $500,000 worth of Bitcoin each to John Deaton, a lawyer and crypto advocate running against Senator Elizabeth Warren. The twins are calling Warren the biggest threat to the crypto industry, claiming she’s using the government to unfairly target crypto companies.

“Operation Choke Point 2.0”

Tyler Winklevoss specifically pointed to the SEC’s investigations and enforcement actions against crypto companies, as well as the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation’s “Operation Choke Point 2.0” which aims to pressure banks into not working with crypto businesses. He accused Warren of being behind these initiatives, saying she’s more interested in power than in creating good regulations for the industry.

Trump Donation History

This isn’t the first time the Winklevoss twins have donated Bitcoin to political campaigns. Back in June, they gave $1 million worth of Bitcoin to Donald Trump, the Republican candidate for the 2024 presidential election. They said they were supporting Trump because of his pro-crypto stance and their belief that the Biden administration is trying to hurt the digital asset industry.
