Following the recent multi-million dollar hack of cryptocurrency exchange WazirX, scammers are taking advantage of the situation to target users.
Phishing Emails Exploiting the Hack
A fake email claiming to offer compensation to affected users through a new token called “WZA” has been circulating. This email, which appears to be from WazirX, promises to airdrop the token to users based on their losses. It also includes a link to a website for users to engage in the “reimbursement process.”
However, users on X have quickly identified the email as a scam.
WazirX Takes Action to Recover Funds
WazirX CEO Nischal Shetty has announced that the exchange is taking several steps to recover the stolen assets. These include:
- Launching a bounty program: This will offer rewards to experts who can help freeze or recover the stolen funds.
- Continuously tracing fund movements: WazirX is working with specialists to track the transfer of the stolen funds.
- Reaching out to other exchanges for assistance: The exchange is collaborating with other platforms to recover the stolen assets.
WazirX is also following all legal and regulatory protocols in its efforts to recover the stolen funds.
Stay Vigilant!
Sumit Gupta, CEO of CoinDCX, has urged cryptocurrency users to remain vigilant and verify the authenticity of any emails or websites they receive.
Important: Always double-check the sender’s email address and any website links before clicking on them. Be wary of any offers that seem too good to be true, especially in the wake of a major security breach. /p>
