Two US Banks Hit by Data Breaches, Thousands Affected

Sensitive Information at Risk

Two US banks, TD Bank and Summit National Bank, have reported data breaches affecting thousands of customers. The incidents, which occurred between last fall and this spring, involved the potential exposure of highly sensitive personal information.

Summit National Bank: 10,912 Customers Impacted

Wyoming-based Summit National Bank discovered suspicious activity in May and confirmed a data breach that occurred between May 13th and 16th. The bank confirmed that 10,912 customers were affected. The compromised information includes names, Social Security numbers, and financial account details.

TD Bank: Insider Breach Affects 41 Customers

TD Bank reported a data breach affecting 41 customers. The bank discovered the breach on July 16th, but it occurred months earlier, between September 2023 and March 2024. The bank admitted that an employee improperly accessed customer data without a legitimate reason. The leaked information potentially includes names, addresses, Social Security numbers, dates of birth, debit card numbers, expiration dates, and security codes.

Banks Apologize, Offer Support

Both banks have apologized to their customers for the breaches and are offering support to those affected. They recommend customers monitor their accounts for suspicious activity and contact the banks if they have any concerns.
