Donald Trump has been making headlines in the crypto world lately, and this time it’s not because of his political views. After surviving an assassination attempt, the price of several memecoins based on his image skyrocketed.
Memecoins Go Up, Up, Up
Videos of the incident showed Trump dropping to the ground after being shot while giving a speech at a campaign rally. Thankfully, he was quickly escorted to safety by Secret Service agents.
Following the news, memecoins like MAGA (TRUMP/WETH) and donald tremp (tremp/SOL) saw significant price increases. MAGA, built on the Ethereum blockchain, jumped from $6.17 to $10.46, while tremp on the Solana network soared from $0.39 to $0.84 – a whopping 132.35% increase!
But that’s not all. New Trump-themed memecoins popped up like mushrooms after a rain, with some seeing even more dramatic price gains. One Solana-based coin, Make Ear Great Again (MEGA/SOL), experienced a mind-blowing 30,982% surge in just a few hours.
Trump Speaks Out
Trump himself commented on the incident, saying he was shot with a bullet that went through his right ear. He described hearing a “whizzing sound” and feeling the bullet rip through his skin.
He also confirmed that the shooter was apprehended, but details about the person remain unknown.
Election Odds Shift
Interestingly, after the assassination attempt, Trump’s chances of winning the upcoming US Presidential election jumped to 70% according to the prediction site Polymarket.
While Trump has been a vocal supporter of cryptocurrency lately, his embracement of digital assets has been met with mixed reactions. Some crypto figures, like Kraken co-founder Jesse Powell and the Winklevoss twins, have shown support, while others, like BitMEX founder Arthur Hayes, remain skeptical.
