Former President Donald Trump is now courting the digital asset industry, positioning himself as the “crypto president” to secure donations.
Trump’s Previous Stance
Despite initially expressing hostility towards cryptocurrencies, Trump has recently softened his stance. In 2018, he reportedly directed Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin to crack down on Bitcoin. However, in recent years, he has warmed up to the sector.
NFT Collection and Crypto Holdings
In 2022, Trump launched a collection of NFTs and disclosed owning a cryptocurrency wallet worth between $250,001 and $500,000. He has also expressed support for digital assets.
Crypto Donations
Trump’s campaign has announced it will accept crypto donations for the 2024 election. This move is seen as an attempt to differentiate himself from the Biden Administration, which some crypto stakeholders view as hostile.
