Telegram’s New App Store: A Gateway to Web3

Telegram, the popular messaging app, is getting a major upgrade with a new mini-app store and support for Web3 pages. This means you’ll be able to access a variety of apps and services directly within Telegram, making it even more versatile.

A Web3 Hub

Telegram founder Pavel Durov sees 2024 as the year blockchain technology goes mainstream. To support this, Telegram is launching a mini-app store that will allow users to access Web3 apps, which are built on blockchain technology. These apps will be able to integrate with 20 different payment providers, making it easier than ever to use cryptocurrencies within the app.

Fighting Scammers

Durov also emphasized the importance of fighting crypto scams. To help users stay safe, Telegram will be implementing new features like:

  • Transparency: Public accounts will display their registration date and country of origin, similar to Instagram.
  • Decentralized Verification: Organizations can use their mini-apps to issue labels for channels, creating a decentralized system for verifying their authenticity.

A New Era for Telegram

These changes are a big step for Telegram, which has been a vocal supporter of blockchain technology. While Telegram previously partnered with the TON blockchain, they parted ways in 2020. However, users can still send TON within the app.

With the new mini-app store and Web3 support, Telegram is positioning itself as a major player in the growing Web3 space. This could make it a more attractive platform for both users and developers alike.
