T-Mobile is handing out a whopping $350 million to customers affected by a huge data breach in 2021. The settlement follows a class-action lawsuit.
Who Gets Paid and How Much?
The breach exposed the personal info of around 76 million people, including names, Social Security numbers, and birth dates. Payments start in April.
- Significant Losses: Those who suffered financial losses due to the breach can claim up to $25,000.
- Automatic Payments: Many others will automatically receive $25, or $100 for California residents. No action is needed for these eligible customers.
How the Breach Happened
The breach was the work of John Binns, a hacker based in Turkey. He exploited a misconfigured router to access T-Mobile’s internal network, using brute force attacks over several weeks in early 2021.
