Real-World Assets to Tokenize Trillions by 2030, Says McKinsey

Consulting firm McKinsey & Company predicts that the market capitalization of real-world tokenized assets could reach $2 trillion by 2030.

Projected Growth

McKinsey analysts estimate a potential market cap range of $1 trillion to $4 trillion by the end of the decade, excluding stablecoins. In 2018, the RWA sector was valued at just $1.5 billion, but has since grown to $120 billion.

Drivers of Growth

The firm attributes future growth to adoption by financial institutions, including mutual funds, lenders, and alternative funds. Blockchain technology and improved regulatory clarity are also contributing factors.

Conservative Estimates

McKinsey’s predictions are more conservative than some previous reports. In 2022, 21Shares estimated a market value of $3.5 trillion to $10 trillion by 2030. Boston Consulting Group estimated a $16 trillion opportunity by the end of the decade.
