Financial giant Prudential Financial is settling a class-action lawsuit stemming from a major data breach in February 2024. The breach exposed sensitive customer information, including names, Social Security numbers, addresses, and more.
The Settlement Details
Prudential is establishing a $4.75 million settlement fund. After legal fees and costs are covered, the remaining money will be distributed to affected customers. Claimants can receive compensation for several things:
- Documented Out-of-Pocket Losses: Up to $5,000 for expenses incurred between February 4th, 2024, and October 3rd, 2025, due to the breach. This includes things like credit monitoring fees, identity theft recovery costs, and replacing IDs.
- Social Security Number/Tax Identification Number Impact Payments: A payment specifically for the impact of the exposed Social Security number or tax ID.
- CCPA Payments: Available only to California residents.
- Pro Rata Cash Payment: A payment based on a proportional share of the remaining funds.

The deadline to file a claim is October 3rd, 2025. The lawsuit alleges hackers accessed Prudential’s systems and stole personal data from numerous customers. Prudential manages $1.5 trillion in assets.
