A lawyer is suing the US government to uncover whether it knows the identity of the mysterious Bitcoin creator, Satoshi Nakamoto.
Government Agent’s Claim Sparks Lawsuit
The lawsuit stems from a 2019 statement by a Department of Homeland Security (DHS) special agent, Rana Saoud. Saoud reportedly said that DHS agents interviewed Nakamoto and three others involved in Bitcoin’s creation in California. Crypto lawyer James “MetaLawMan” Murphy is using a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to force the government to reveal any documents related to this alleged interview.
The Search for Documentation
Murphy argues that if the interview happened, there should be records. He’s urging the DHS to voluntarily release the information but says he’ll pursue the case to its end if necessary. He acknowledges the possibility that the agent’s claim was inaccurate.
Satoshi’s Millions and Disappearance
Analysts believe Nakamoto mined a massive amount of Bitcoin, starting with the very first block in 2009. The last known online activity attributed to Satoshi dates back to December 2010. The mystery surrounding their identity continues to fascinate the crypto community.
