Eagle Bank, a Maryland-based financial institution, is warning its customers about a potential security breach that may have affected their Mastercard debit card information.
What Happened?
The bank received a notice from Mastercard stating that an unnamed US merchant experienced a security breach between August 15th, 2023, and May 25th, 2024. During this time, unauthorized individuals may have gained access to customer account information, including Mastercard numbers and other financial details.
What Does This Mean for Eagle Bank Customers?
Eagle Bank assures its customers that the breach did not affect their internal systems or their account records. However, they are urging customers to be vigilant and carefully review their monthly statements for any suspicious activity over the next 12 to 24 months.
As a precautionary measure, Eagle Bank is also replacing all existing debit cards with new ones.
What Should Customers Do?
- Monitor your bank statements: Keep a close eye on your monthly statements for any unauthorized transactions.
- Report any suspicious activity: If you notice any unusual activity, contact Eagle Bank immediately.
- Keep your personal information secure:
Be cautious about sharing your personal information online and avoid clicking on suspicious links.
Eagle Bank is taking steps to protect its customers and is working with Mastercard to investigate the breach further.
