A large US bank, Western Alliance Bank, with $81 billion in assets, recently revealed a significant data breach affecting nearly 22,000 customers.
The Breach Details
The bank discovered in late January 2025 that an unauthorized person accessed their systems between October 12th and 24th, 2024. This access was through a vulnerability in a third-party file transfer software. The breach exposed sensitive information for 21,899 customers.
What Information Was Stolen?
Stolen data potentially includes names, Social Security numbers, dates of birth, financial account numbers, driver’s license numbers, tax identification numbers, and passport information (if provided to the bank).
Bank Response
Western Alliance Bank reported the breach to law enforcement and is providing affected customers with a free year of identity theft protection services.
