JPMorgan Chase Employee Caught Stealing From Customers and ATMs

A former JPMorgan Chase employee, Roberto Garcia, has been accused of stealing thousands of dollars from both customers and the bank itself.

ATM Heist

Garcia, who worked as a personal banker and ATM custodian in Miami, Florida, admitted to taking $12,732 from ATMs. The bank discovered the missing cash after conducting an audit in September 2019.

Account Takeovers

Garcia also allegedly accessed eight customer accounts and changed their phone numbers to his own. He then enrolled their debit or credit cards into his Apple Pay Wallet, attempting to make fraudulent transactions worth over $7,000. While most of these attempts failed, $2,473 was successfully processed. The bank reimbursed the affected customers, resulting in a loss of $2,473.

Formal Accusations

Although Garcia has verbally admitted to his actions, the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) is now demanding a written response to their formal accusations.
