Google is facing a massive fine from a Russian court for blocking a group of Russian TV channels on YouTube. The court has reportedly ordered Google to pay a whopping $20 decillion (that’s 20 followed by 33 zeros!) for blocking accounts belonging to pro-Russia and state-run media outlets.

The fine stems from a lawsuit filed by the Russian media companies after Google blocked their channels due to alleged violations of sanctions and trade rules. The court initially slapped Google with a small fine of 100,000 rubles. However, the penalty doubled every week that the channels remained blocked.

To put this fine into perspective, it’s way bigger than the entire global economy. Google’s parent company, Alphabet, reported a net profit of $73.8 billion for the entire year of 2023. That’s just a tiny fraction of the fine.
