Fake Money From the ATM?

Customers in Kentucky were left shocked and frustrated after receiving fake $100 bills from an ATM.

Movie Money, Not Real Money

Several people, including Tiffany Vaugh, withdrew money from an Independence Bank ATM in Providence, Kentucky, only to discover the bills were fake. These bills were marked “for motion picture purposes” and “in props we trust,” indicating they were intended for movie sets, not real transactions.

Bank Responds

Independence Bank acknowledged the issue and stated they are working with their ATM vendor to fix the problem. They have contacted the 14 customers affected and are replacing the fake bills with real ones.

Counterfeit Currency Is a Problem

The U.S. Secret Service seized over $21 million in counterfeit currency last year, and the Treasury Department estimates that millions of dollars in circulation are fake.

Independence Bank is a large bank with over $3 billion in assets, making this incident even more surprising.
