A wild story is unfolding in Los Angeles involving a crypto trader, corrupt sheriff’s deputies, and a whole lot of cash.
The “Godfather” and His Crypto Empire
Adam Iza, founder of the crypto trading platform Zort and nicknamed “The Godfather,” is accused by the FBI of running a massive extortion racket. The FBI alleges Iza used fraudulent means to rake in millions, then hid the money from the IRS. He allegedly spent this ill-gotten wealth on luxury cars, a Bel Air mansion, even leg lengthening surgery!
Dirty Deputies on the Take
The FBI’s investigation reveals that Iza didn’t act alone. He allegedly paid hundreds of thousands of dollars to three Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department (LASD) deputies. These deputies allegedly acted as enforcers, using their badges to intimidate victims and silence anyone who got in his way. This included illegal searches and arrests.
The Scheme Unravels
The FBI’s complaint details a multi-pronged scheme: extortion, bribery of law enforcement, illegal searches and arrests, and tax evasion. Iza and his co-conspirators allegedly funneled money through shell companies to cover their tracks.
Iza’s Plea and the Ongoing Investigation
Iza pleaded not guilty earlier this month. The FBI investigation is ongoing, and the full extent of the scheme is still being uncovered. This case highlights the potential for corruption to infiltrate even law enforcement agencies.
