Raoul Pal, a former Goldman Sachs executive, believes that the rise of cryptocurrency exchanges is empowering everyday investors and disrupting traditional finance.
Retail Investors Outperforming the Market
Pal recently conducted a poll on X (formerly Twitter) asking his million followers if their personal portfolios outperformed the S&P 500 this year. A whopping 80.7% of the nearly 11,000 respondents said they did, despite the S&P 500 being up 27.5% year-to-date. He interprets this as evidence that ordinary investors, sharing tips and ideas, are beating professional money managers.
The Power Shift in Finance
Pal sees this as a “glorious” shift in power. He argues that the ease of self-investing, fueled by platforms like Binance, Coinbase, Robinhood, and Kraken, along with product providers such as VanEck and Bitwise, is allowing individuals to outperform the traditional finance system. He believes this trend will continue to grow.
Pal’s Crypto Pick: Sui (SUI)
Looking at specific cryptocurrencies, Pal predicts that Sui (SUI), a competitor to Solana, will be the “next big thing.” At the time of writing, SUI is trading at $3.36.
