Cryptocurrency billionaire Justin Sun made headlines by eating a $6.2 million banana artwork. The banana, part of a limited-edition art piece called “Comedian” by Maurizio Cattelan, was purchased by Sun at a Sotheby’s auction.
A Very Expensive Snack
The artwork, which consists of a banana taped to a wall, caused a stir when it first appeared at Art Basel in 2019. Sun’s purchase of the piece for a whopping $6.24 million made it even more infamous. Along with the banana itself, the purchase included a roll of duct tape and a certificate of authenticity.
The Taste Test
After purchasing the artwork, Sun famously filmed himself eating the banana. He described the experience, saying the taste was “naturally different” from a regular banana, even suggesting it hinted at the flavor of bananas from a century ago. His comments added another layer of intrigue to the already bizarre event.
