Craig Wright, the self-proclaimed Bitcoin inventor, is facing a legal hurdle in his ongoing lawsuit against Bitcoin Core developers and Square.
Contempt of Court Allegations
A group called the Cryptocurrency Open Patent Alliance (COPA) has accused Wright of breaching a previous court order. They claim that Wright’s new lawsuit, which accuses Bitcoin Core developers of misrepresenting Bitcoin, violates a previous ruling that declared him not to be Satoshi Nakamoto.
Wright’s Claims
Wright, representing himself in the lawsuit, argues that Bitcoin Core developers have made changes to Bitcoin that have damaged the original vision of the cryptocurrency. He claims that Bitcoin SV (BSV) is the true version of Bitcoin and is seeking over $1 billion in damages.
The Court’s Decision
Judge James Mellor has put Wright’s lawsuit on hold until the contempt application is resolved. He has scheduled a hearing for December 18th to determine if Wright is in contempt of court.
Wright’s Defense
Wright denies the allegations of contempt, stating that he is not trying to claim he is Satoshi Nakamoto in this lawsuit. He claims his new lawsuit is based on his contributions to Bitcoin’s development.
Physical Appearance in Court
There is also a debate over whether Wright will physically appear in court for the December hearing. Wright claims his autism spectrum disorder (ASD) prevents him from attending in person, but COPA argues that the seriousness of the allegations requires all parties to be present. The court will decide on this matter on November 26th.
