Comcast, one of the biggest internet providers in the US, has been hit with another major data breach. This time, the personal information of over 237,000 customers was exposed, including their names, addresses, social security numbers, and birthdates.
Third-Party Provider to Blame
The breach happened at Financial Business and Consumer Solutions (FBCS), a third-party company that Comcast used for debt collection services. In February 2024, hackers gained access to FBCS’s computer network and stole data, including customer information. FBCS confirmed that over four million people were affected by the breach.
Second Major Breach in Less Than a Year
This is the second major data breach involving Comcast customers in less than a year. In December 2023, Comcast-owned Xfinity revealed that the personal data of almost all 35 million of their customers was exposed. This breach was caused by a security flaw in software from the cloud computing company Citrix.
What to Do if You’re Affected
If you’re a Comcast customer, you should check your email for any communication from the company about the data breach. You should also be on the lookout for any suspicious activity on your accounts. If you suspect your information has been compromised, you should contact Comcast and report the issue.
Stay Safe Online
It’s important to be aware of the risks of data breaches and take steps to protect your personal information. You should always use strong passwords and enable two-factor authentication whenever possible. You should also be careful about the information you share online and avoid clicking on suspicious links.
