California is launching a big guaranteed income pilot program for older adults! The state legislature and governor have approved $4.75 million to fund the initiative.
Who’s Getting the Money?
This program, tentatively called “Guaranteed Income Older Adults,” will help low-income Californians aged 60 and older. To qualify, participants must already be receiving some kind of government assistance.
How Much Money and How Will it Be Paid?
The program aims to provide at least $500 a month for at least six months to participants. Based on community feedback, recipients will have the flexibility to choose between receiving payments monthly, in a lump sum, or a combination of both. The program plans to include at least 200 participants.
Finding a Program Administrator
The California Department of Social Services (CDSS) is now looking for a non-profit organization (either public or private) to run the program for three and a half years. Organizations interested in applying have until April 9th to submit their proposals. The chosen organization will be announced on June 25th.
