Bitfinex CTO Debunks Data Breach Rumors

No Contact from Hackers

Bitfinex CTO Paolo Ardoino has denied rumors of a data breach after a group called FSOCIETY claimed to have hacked the exchange. Ardoino stated that the group never contacted Bitfinex directly about any breach.

Leaked Data Analysis

FSOCIETY released sample data allegedly stolen from Bitfinex, but Ardoino claims that only 5,000 of the 22,500 emails match Bitfinex customers. He believes the hackers simply collected data from previous crypto hacks.

FUD Campaign

Ardoino dismissed the rumors as “FUD” (fear, uncertainty, and doubt) and emphasized that all funds are safe. He added that Bitfinex is conducting a thorough investigation to ensure no vulnerabilities remain.

Marketing Scheme

An independent security researcher revealed that FSOCIETY’s data breach claim may be a marketing strategy to promote their ransomware products. The researcher believes the group is selling tools that they claim were used to hack Bitfinex and other organizations.

Questioning Credibility

Ardoino questioned the group’s credibility, stating that if they had truly hacked Bitfinex, they would not need to sell their products for $299.
