Bitcoin Wallets Stir After 10 Years, Move $60 Million

Two Bitcoin wallets that have been dormant for over a decade have suddenly become active, transferring a combined $60.9 million worth of BTC.

Awakening of the Giants

On September 12th, 2013, two wallets received 500 BTC each, when the cryptocurrency was worth $124 per coin. After remaining untouched for over 10 years, both wallets emptied their holdings over a 20-minute period this weekend.

The Bitcoin was sent to two newly created wallets. One still holds 500 BTC, while the other has distributed its funds through a series of other new wallets.

Whale Activity

This movement of funds highlights the growing activity of “newer crypto whales,” investors who hold significant amounts of BTC with a shorter average holding period. According to CryptoQuant, these whales have accumulated almost double the amount of BTC as long-term holders.
