Bitcoin Mining Noise Drives Texas Residents to Sue

A group of residents in Granbury, Texas, are fed up with the noise from a nearby Bitcoin mining facility. They’ve filed a lawsuit against Marathon Digital Holdings, the company running the facility, claiming the constant noise and vibrations are making their lives miserable.

The Noise is Unbearable

The residents say the mining facility, located near their homes, is a constant source of loud, roaring noises. The cooling fans for the mining computers run 24/7, creating a persistent hum that’s disrupting their sleep, causing headaches, and even affecting their hearing.

One resident, Cheryl Shadden, described the situation as a nightmare: “In such a short time, Bitcoin mining has completely altered our community, for the worse. The around-the-clock mining isn’t just driving up our electricity bills — it’s costing us our health.”

Health and Environmental Concerns

The lawsuit argues that the noise pollution from the mining facility is harmful to residents’ physical and mental health, as well as the surrounding environment. The constant noise is preventing residents from enjoying their homes and causing them stress and anxiety.

The lawsuit also points out that Bitcoin mining is an energy-intensive process, and the facility’s operations are contributing to higher electricity bills for local residents.

Calls for Action

The residents are demanding that Marathon Digital take action to reduce the noise pollution or shut down the facility altogether. They want the company to take responsibility for the impact its operations are having on their lives and the environment.

“We feel trapped,” said Shadden. “Day and night, we are subjected to relentless noise that is physically harming us. We aren’t asking for much — just for Marathon to take responsibility and restore our peace and well-being.”

The lawsuit is seeking a permanent injunction to stop the noise pollution and compensation for damages, including higher electricity bills and decreased property values.
