Binance, a major cryptocurrency exchange, has launched a new cryptocurrency called Animecoin (ANIME). This “culture coin” aims to give anime fans a piece of the industry.
Airdrop and Listing
The exchange airdropped ANIME tokens to eligible users who held BNB, Binance’s native token. This was part of Binance’s HODLer Airdrop program, which rewards long-term BNB holders. Following the airdrop, ANIME was listed on Binance for trading.
Animecoin’s Ambitions
Animecoin describes itself as a community-owned network designed to connect the massive anime fanbase. They envision a space where fans actively participate in the creative process and directly benefit from their contributions. The project is backed by Azuki.
Market Performance and Risks
At the time of writing, ANIME is trading around $0.08. However, it experienced a significant drop of almost 45% on its first day of trading. Binance has labeled ANIME with a “seed” tag, indicating its high volatility and lower liquidity. Traders are required to complete risk assessment quizzes every three months to trade seed-tagged assets.
