Big Companies Are Buying Up Homes, Making It Tough for Families to Find a Place

Across the US, big companies are quietly buying up homes, making it harder for regular people to find a place to live.

Big Companies, Big Money

In Tampa Bay, Florida, companies are making cash offers to homeowners, then flipping the houses into rentals. These companies are often hidden behind a bunch of confusing LLCs, making it hard to figure out who’s really behind them.

A Growing Problem

This isn’t just happening in Tampa Bay. Across the country, in places like Atlanta, Nashville, and Texas, big companies are buying up homes. This is driving up prices and making it even harder for families to find a place to buy.

The Impact on Families

One Tampa Bay resident, Tamika Morris, says she’s constantly getting calls and mail from companies offering to buy her home. She says, “I’m thankful I don’t have to look for a home at these prices. I don’t know how anyone can afford it. Land is important to our family history. Having something of our own is important.”

A National Concern

A recent poll found that Americans are worried about the cost and availability of housing. It’s the second biggest economic concern, after rising prices and stagnant wages.
