A former bank associate in San Francisco is accused of a major theft. Sixto Christopher Porras allegedly stole nearly half a million dollars from two customers in just two months.
How the Heists Went Down
The U.S. Attorney’s Office says Porras pulled off two separate heists. In the first, he got a customer’s debit card PIN during a wire transfer. He then used the card to steal about $100,000.
A month later, he repeated the trick. While helping another customer with a fraudulent charge, he obtained their PIN. He then had a new debit card sent to his home address and stole approximately $340,000.
Facing Serious Charges
Porras is no longer employed by the unnamed bank. He’s now facing serious charges: embezzlement of bank funds and access device fraud. If convicted, he could face up to 30 years in prison and a $1 million fine for the embezzlement charge, and an additional 15 years and a $250,000 fine for the access device fraud.
