A recent poll shows that most Americans aren’t keen on the idea of the government hoarding cryptocurrencies. This is despite President Trump pushing for a national cryptocurrency reserve.
The Poll Results: Thumbs Down on Crypto Reserves
A survey by Data for Progress polled 1,169 voters between March 8th and 10th, 2025. The results? A clear majority (51%) oppose creating a US government cryptocurrency reserve. Only 34% support the idea.
The breakdown by political affiliation is interesting:
- Democrats:
59% opposed, 29% supported.
- Independents: 56% opposed, 30% supported.
- Republicans:
It’s a closer call here, with 41% in favor and 40% against. Even within the Republican party, there’s significant opposition to the idea.
Americans Want Less Crypto Spending
The poll also revealed that most Americans don’t want the government spending more on crypto. In fact:
- Only 10% want increased federal funding for cryptocurrency and blockchain development.
- 45% want to reduce funding.
- 29% want to keep funding at current levels.
This trend holds true across party lines, although Republicans are slightly more likely to want to maintain current spending levels than Democrats.
The Bottom Line
The poll clearly indicates that a government-backed cryptocurrency reserve isn’t a popular idea with the American public. Most people would prefer to see less government spending on cryptocurrencies, regardless of their political affiliation.
