Solana (SOL) has taken the top spot on CoinGecko’s list of the fastest blockchains, outpacing its rival Ethereum (ETH) by a whopping 46 times.
Solana’s Speed Dominance
Solana has proven to be the fastest among large blockchains, with an average transaction speed of 1,504 per second (TPS) recorded in April. This speed advantage gives Solana a significant edge over Ethereum, which currently averages only 22.70 TPS.
Despite its speed, Solana has only reached 1.6% of its theoretical maximum throughput of 65,000 TPS. This indicates that Solana has plenty of room for further optimization.
Ethereum and Layer-2 Solutions Lag Behind
While Ethereum and its top 10 layer-2 scaling solutions combine for a total of 500 TPS, this still falls short of Solana’s impressive performance.
Other Fast Blockchains
Solana is not the only fast blockchain on the market. Other contenders include:
- Sui Network (SUI)
- Binance Smart Chain (BSC)
- Polygon (MATIC)
- Toncoin (TON)
- Tron (TRON)
- Near Protocol (NEAR)
- Avalanche (AVAX)
Solana’s Market Performance
