Google-Backed Program to Provide $2.7 Million in Guaranteed Income to San Francisco Families

Google is supporting a new program that will provide $2.7 million in guaranteed income to 225 families in San Francisco who are struggling with homelessness.

Program Details

The five-year program, called “It All Adds Up,” will give each family $1,000 per month for one year. Participants can use the money for any purpose they choose.

Impact on Families

“It takes four full-time minimum wage jobs to afford a two-bedroom apartment in San Francisco,” said a spokesperson for the program. “This guaranteed income can help families meet basic necessities and improve their lives.”

Research Component

An additional 225 families will receive $50 per month as a control group for the study. Researchers will track the outcomes of both groups to evaluate the impact of guaranteed income on housing stability and other factors.

Program Funding

The program is funded by Google.org and The Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab.
