Blockchain Group Supports Tornado Cash Developers in Legal Battle

The Blockchain Association, an advocate for cryptocurrency, has joined the legal fight to support the developers of Tornado Cash, Roman Storm and Roman Semenov.

Indictment Flawed

Last year, the US Department of Justice accused Storm and Semenov of helping North Korean hackers launder money through Tornado Cash. However, Storm’s lawyers argue that he only created software to protect the privacy of legitimate cryptocurrency users.

The Blockchain Association agrees, filing an amicus brief to highlight a flaw in the government’s case. The brief argues that the indictment fails to show that Storm or Tornado Cash controlled the funds in question.

Industry Concerns

Blockchain Association Head of Legal Marisa Coppel expressed concerns that the government’s theory could harm the digital asset industry and fintech in general.

Call for Dismissal

The association urges the court to dismiss the charges, protecting the defendants’ rights and the integrity of the digital asset sector.
