Ethereum’s got a big upgrade coming, and it needs everyone to cooperate to make it happen on time. That’s the message from Tomasz Stańczak, co-executive director of the Ethereum Foundation.
Fusaka: The Crucial Upgrade
The Fusaka upgrade is scheduled for Q4 2025, and Stańczak is stressing the importance of hitting that deadline. He’s even suggested putting the brakes on discussions about another upgrade, Glamsterdam (planned for Q1/Q2 2026), to focus all efforts on Fusaka. He’s made it clear that all the planning in the world is useless if they can’t deliver on time.
What’s in Fusaka?
Fusaka is a big deal, combining two major upgrades: Fulu (for the consensus layer) and Osaka (for the execution layer). It includes 11 new Ethereum Improvement Proposals (EIPs) and some seriously cool tech:
-
Peer-to-Peer Data Availability Sampling (PeerDAS): This makes verifying data much more efficient, boosting scalability and security. Think of it as a way to check if everyone has the right information without having to download everything.
-
Verkle Trees: These are a super-efficient way to store and verify data, making things faster and needing less storage space.
-
EIP-7825:
This one limits transaction gas, helping to prevent spam attacks and keep the network safe.
In short, Fusaka is packed with improvements designed to make Ethereum faster, safer, and more scalable.
Why the Rush?

The success of the Fusaka upgrade is important for Ethereum’s continued growth. Companies are increasingly using ETH in their treasury strategies, and ETH ETFs are even outperforming Bitcoin’s. Some analysts even think ETH might become the preferred store of value in the future. With ETH currently trading at around $3,956, a smooth upgrade is crucial to maintain this momentum.
