An online insurance comparison site, QuoteWizard, is paying out $19 million to settle a lawsuit alleging they violated the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA). The company sent unsolicited text messages to people on the National Do Not Call Registry.
Settlement Details
QuoteWizard is making this payment without admitting any wrongdoing. People who believe they were wrongly texted have until August 5th to opt out of the settlement if they don’t want a share of the money. A final court hearing to approve the settlement is scheduled for September 29th.
Getting Your Share
No application is needed to receive payment. Those included in the class-action lawsuit will automatically get money unless they specifically choose to opt out. Each person is expected to receive at least $76. More information, including a website and toll-free number, will be available soon.
