Major Banks Report Data Breaches

Several large banks have recently reported data breaches affecting customer information. Here’s a summary of the incidents:

JPMorgan Chase Data Breaches

JPMorgan Chase reported at least four data breaches in Massachusetts affecting several customers. Two incidents involved employee misconduct, leading to fraudulent transactions on customers’ credit and debit cards. The bank closed the affected accounts, issued replacements, and reimbursed customers. In two other separate incidents, the bank mistakenly shared sensitive customer transaction details (names, addresses, account numbers, and amounts) with other customers’ accounts. Fortunately, no misuse of this information has been detected so far.

Bank of America Lost Documents

Bank of America reported the loss of documents related to at least one customer’s savings bonds. The documents, lost in transit on February 14th, contained sensitive information including the customer’s name, address, Social Security number, and account number. The bank is monitoring the customer’s account for suspicious activity.

TD Bank Employee Misconduct

TD Bank revealed that a former employee improperly accessed a customer’s personal information between December 2024 and January 2025. The compromised information may have included the customer’s name, address, phone number, Social Security number, account number, and transaction data. TD Bank is monitoring the account for fraud and is providing the customer with free identity theft protection services for two years.
