XRP Ledger Briefly Goes Offline: Ripple CTO Explains

Ripple’s XRP Ledger experienced a one-hour outage on Tuesday, but it’s back online now. Ripple’s CTO, David Schwartz, shed some light on the situation, though the exact cause is still under investigation.

Network Drift: A Preliminary Explanation

Schwartz explained that the network may have suffered from a “drifting apart” issue. While consensus mechanisms seemed to be running, the validations weren’t being published, leading to the outage. He emphasized that this was a preliminary observation and a full investigation is underway.

No Data Loss Reported

Despite the outage, Schwartz confirmed that no assets were lost on the XRP Ledger. The issue essentially prevented ledgers from being considered trustworthy for about an hour. The system correctly identified the problem and discarded any tentative ledgers created during this period. No fully validated ledgers were affected.

XRP Price Dip

At the time of writing, XRP is trading at $2.37, down almost 11% in the last 24 hours. This price drop is likely unrelated to the brief network outage.
