Sam Altman’s crypto project, Worldcoin, is getting a fresh look. The project, which uses eye-scanning technology to verify people’s identities, is now called World Network.
Why the Name Change?
The team says the old name “Worldcoin” didn’t fully capture their goal: to create a system where everyone in the world can prove they’re human online. They think “World Network” better reflects this mission.
Introducing the New Orb
Along with the name change, World Network also unveiled an updated version of their eye-scanning device, the Orb. The new Orb is powered by a super-fast AI chip from NVIDIA, making it five times faster than the old one. It’s also cheaper to build and has fewer parts.
Expanding to New Countries
World Network says the new Orb will help them expand their services to more countries. They’re planning to launch in places like Costa Rica, Brazil, Romania, Indonesia, Australia, Morocco, and the United Arab Emirates.
