Sacramento County Gives Away $1.74 Million in Guaranteed Income Pilot Program

Sacramento County, one of the most populated counties in the US, is giving away free money to families in need. The program, called the Family First Economic Support Pilot, will give $725 per month for a year to 200 families.

Who Qualifies?

To be eligible, families must:

  • Have a Black/African American or American Indian/Alaska Native child between 0-5 years old.
  • Live in certain zip codes in Sacramento County.
  • Have an income below 200% of the federal poverty level.
  • Not be enrolled in other government or privately funded guaranteed income programs.

How to Apply

Applications opened on September 30th and close on October 13th. The first payment is expected to be sent out on December 15th, 2024.

No Strings Attached

The money can be used for anything the families need. There are no conditions on how it’s spent.

Funding

The program is funded by a grant from the California state government and some private donations.
